Jeffrey Morrison, MD, CNS, ABIHM

Founder, The Morrison Center | President, American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM)

Dr. Jeffrey Morrison is a board-certified integrative and environmental medicine physician with over two decades of clinical experience focused on detoxification, nutrition, and functional medicine. He is a Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) and a nationally recognized expert in chelation therapy, having served for ten years as the lead Course Trainer on Chelation Therapy for the American College for the Advancement in Medicine (ACAM). He currently serves as the President of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM).

Dr. Morrison received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. In 2002, he opened The Morrison Center in New York City, where he specializes in reversing chronic illness by targeting environmental triggers, restoring biochemical pathways, and enhancing the body’s innate healing capacity. He is the author of Cleanse Your Body, Clear Your Mind and a frequent speaker at national medical conferences.

Optimizing Detoxification with Chelation Therapy: Clinical Applications of EDTA, DMPS, DMSA, and the Role of IV Vitamin C

Targeted strategies for environmental toxin clearance, oxidative stress reduction, and mitochondrial repair.

Abstract

Toxic metal exposure is a critical and underrecognized contributor to many chronic conditions—including cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, hormonal disruption, and autoimmunity. In this advanced clinical presentation, Dr. Jeffrey Morrison outlines a comprehensive framework for assessing and reducing heavy metal burden using evidence-based chelation therapies.

Participants will learn the pharmacology, indications, and safety considerations of key chelating agents: EDTA (ideal for lead, cadmium, and cardiovascular support), DMPS (especially effective for mercury and arsenic mobilization), and DMSA (an oral FDA-approved agent for outpatient use and pediatric protocols). The presentation will include patient selection criteria, lab monitoring strategies, and case-based applications.

Additionally, Dr. Morrison will explore the critical role of oxidative stress in metal toxicity and demonstrate how intravenous Vitamin C serves as a powerful adjunct to chelation. Ascorbate not only neutralizes free radicals but also supports glutathione recycling, immune modulation, tissue repair, and inflammation control—making it a cornerstone of safe and effective detoxification.

Attendees will leave with practical, clinically actionable insights into how to implement chelation protocols with precision and safety—while integrating antioxidant support to optimize patient outcomes in an increasingly toxic world.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the common sources of toxic metal exposure and associated health risks, including cardiovascular, neurological, and endocrine complications.
  2. Differentiate between the pharmacological properties, indications, and clinical applications of EDTA, DMPS, and DMSA in chelation therapy.
  3. Evaluate the role of intravenous vitamin C in mitigating oxidative stress, enhancing detoxification pathways, and supporting tissue recovery during and after chelation.
